Lingshan Song is an instructor of Mandarin Chinese and the Director of the Writing Center at MC. Her primary focus is teaching Chinese language and culture, where she is dedicated to helping students develop practical communication skills, cultural competence, and confidence in language learning. She also leads the Chinese study abroad program in Taiwan, creating immersive opportunities for students to deepen their linguistic and cultural understanding.

As an educator, Song adopts a student-centered and relational teaching style shaped by her own experience as an international student. She is also passionate about raising awareness of the value of learning Mandarin Chinese, a Critical Need Language identified by the U.S. government. She actively encourages students to see how proficiency in Chinese can give them a distinct competitive edge in today’s global job market.

Her research and professional interests include second-language learning, multilingual student support, and writing center pedagogy.

Song is a founding member of the Chinese Christian Church of Greater Jackson, where she has served in various roles including adult Sunday School teacher, choir member, and treasurer. Her faith informs her commitment to teaching, mentorship, and service. She and her husband have two daughters (Lydia and Sophia) and are grateful to be part of the MC community.
